How to Stop AI Tools from Using Your Chat Data for Training

If you prefer that AI tools don’t use your chat data to improve their models, you should disable data sharing in the tools you use. This is especially important if you’re using personal AI tools and you’re employed, as your conversations may include sensitive information.

For Microsoft 365 Copilot, there’s no need to worry—data sharing for training does not occur, so there’s no option to turn it off.

However, if you’re using the personal version of Copilot, you can opt out easily:

Select Opt out to prevent your chats from being used for training.

Scroll to the bottom of the main Copilot window in your browser.

Look for the message:
“Copilot may make mistakes. Your conversations are personalised and help train AI.”

In ChatGPT go to Settings > Data Controls and toggle off ‘Improve model for everyone’.
